Meet the Pink Ladies

Mary Hinz

Being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis has changed my life. In the beginning it was overwhelming and full of fear; what would my life be like, what are the side effects of the medications, am I different, would I be able to have a family, how can I make my story different – one filled with healing and survival?  That last question was easy to answer.  I still remember calling my parents, all of my siblings, and friends to tell them about the diagnosis of MS and through their responses I knew that no matter what this disease brought on, I would be ok. While the fear of the future is still present, I have the incredible love and support of my family and friends to make this easier.  I feel lucky and honored to walk 50 miles with the Pink Ladies.  Together, we will find a cure and make this story end with healing and survival for me and the 2.5 million people with Multiple Sclerosis.

I am Mary's next oldest sister and have walked 3 Challenge walks alongside her, a total of 150 miles! I will continue to walk 100's of miles more, in hope that one day we won't need walks or fundraising because MS will be cured. Each step I take is in support of my sister Mary and my mother-in-law Linda who are both affected by this disease. I walk to help Mary, Linda, and many others defeat this disease and live a life of health and happiness!

Mary and I have been friends since high school and share many memories together. I walk because I can't wait to look back at the memories of these weekends and know that we helped in finding the cure against MS; for Mary and all the others that are fighting this disease.

I’ve known Mary since we were paired as college roommates our freshmen year – we immediately hit it off and have been friends ever since! She is a great friend with a huge heart. I walk for her to raise awareness and money to help fund the research needed to prevent, better treat and cure this unpredictable disease for her and the many others faced with MS.

I am Mary's sister. I walk to find a cure so she can face her future without the fear and uncertainity that the diagnosis of MS can bring. I walk so my daughter will know her Aunt Mary free of the symptoms of MS. I walk to with friends and family to share this awesome journey. I walk because so many cannot.

I’m Mary’s sister and I’m going to walk again this year. I walk because I love Mary; she’s the only one I would get up at 5:00am and walk 20 miles a day for. Plus, MS sucks and we need a cure!

I am walking to support my sister ,Mary, who was diagnosed with MS. Mary's team, The Pink Ladies, have been an amazing force in the fight against MS. Mary's will to find a cure for this disease has inspired others to join her cause for multiple years. Until this year, it has been tough for me not to be able to join as each year more people have stepped in to support, laugh, and cry on the three day journey. I am here this year to support my sister, the team, and hopefully provide a cure for MS. I want to experience the soreness of feet (no blisters please), fatigued legs, and shin splints to remind me of the reason we walk 50 miles. I want to experience the camaraderie of the Pink Ladies to know the love, the heart, and the respect of a team that walks for one purpose. I am honored to be part of the Pink Ladies and look forward to the start of the journey on September 24, 2010.
